Jonathan Daniel began his career as an award winning photographer at a suburban Chicago newspaper before moving on to a freelance career in sports photography in 1987. His clients included the athletic department of Northwestern University, Sports Illustrated, the Upper Deck company, The New York Times, NFL Properties, The National Sports Daily and dozens of others. He also served as the team photographer for the Chicago Fire of the MLS for four years.
Jonathan was one of the first contract photographers for Allsport USA, beginning in 1988, and he spent 16 years as a contract photographer at Allsport and Getty Images, before joining the staff full time at Getty Images/Sport based in Chicago in 2004. His work has appeared in many forms all over the world during his career and he has covered many Super Bowls, World Series, NBA, MLS and NHL Championships, as well as his son’s high school marching band competitions and half-time shows, which rank a close second to covering Michael Jordan’s career.
Jonathan was a close friend and confidant to Doug Pensinger for over 25 years. He retired from full time shooting in January of 2022 to spend time with his son, Luis, who will enter college at the University of Illinois/Chicago in the fall of 2023.
