2022 GRANT WINNER

Jeffrey Dean

Jeff Dean is a Cincinnati, OH-based photographer who picked up his first DSLR while stationed in Baghdad, Iraq as a 20-year-old MEDEVAC crewchief. After leaving the military, Jeff earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Journalism from the University of Oregon and interned with the Cincinnati Enquirer. He then participated in the Missouri Photo Workshop before moving to Accra, Ghana where he worked as an investigative journalist for the Tiger Eye Foundation.

Jeff  just completed a six month fellowship as this year’s Military Veterans in Journalism Fellow at NPR. Credits include The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The Boston Globe, The Guardian, Newsweek, Yahoo News!, and ABC News.

He is also the recipient of a DPPF mentorship and will be working with Advisory Board photographer Jennifer Pottheiser. Jeff plans to apply his grant funds toward the purchase of a 400mm lens.
